Actually she’s explained it quite nicely! It’s the writing of it that frightens you, I think!

Pick any historical subject or person that interests you.

Choose 5 sources that describe the different aspects of the same event or person.

Read all of them and takes notes as to the salient portions of each.

You can begin at the beginning or at the end and work backward to explain each scenario within the subject and how it played against the rest.

This is a very interesting assignment, to my way of thinking. It not only gives you the opportunity to expand your knowledge, it gives you an opportunity to write a feature length article with your own thoughts and ideas on the subject!

If it were my assignment, I’d choose to write about the Lindbergh baby being kidnapped and subsequently found dead. It was one of the most riveting moments in our history and the trial was exceedingly interesting.

Ah, yes. How do you think the media makes money? They rely on people/ companies paying for space in their papers.

In TV news there is a practice called the “trade out”. The TV news crew does some favorable reporting on a business and the staff of that station get a few “perks” from the business.
I suspect the same thing may be going on with the publication you mention. Never forget that the chief talent of all of these graduates of university-based schools of journalism is to read and write press releases. Publishing those releases, unedited, is also something they do.
